This is something that was on my mind some years ago and it has finally become true, a dream (Amets) with a single sound, wood (OLAK). I could not start talking about the music included in this CD without mentioning a great musician, txistulari, txuntxunero, danborrero, composer and a good friend, Sabin Bikandi. In 2012 we both started a project which arised from the concern of working with the sound possibilities of a single sound material, wood. Using Sabin’s own words, we can say that “the chosen material determines the creative process to the artist (sculptor, architect...), at the same time being an important source of inspiration”. From this point I use txalaparta and some other wooden instruments applying modern and different aesthetic points of view, construction-deconstruction of phrases, phasing, rhythmic modulations, native rhythms (Basque, Balkan ...).

The txalaparta, an instrument of unknown origin, simple in its structure (a piece of wood struck by another piece of wood) but of great sound power, will be the rider sound of this CD. AmetsOLAK tries to bring a new vision and a new repertoire to a very representative instrument of Basque culture such as the Txalaparta, expanding its sound possibilities.
